Sub Pop 200 is a compilation released in the early days of the Seattle grunge scene (December 1988). It features songs (many of them first releases and otherwise unattainable) from Tad, The Fluid, Nirvana, Steven Jesse Bernstein, Mudhoney, The Walkabouts, Terry Lee Hale, Soundgarden, Green River, Fastbacks, Blood Circus, Swallow, Chemistry Set, Girl Trouble, The Nights and Days, Cat Butt, Beat Happening, Screaming Trees, Steve Fisk and The Thrown Ups.

Many of these bands went on to be incredibly influential in the early 1990s and onwards. Most notable of these were Nirvana, Soundgarden, Green River (who spawned Mudhoney and Mother Love Bone), Screaming Trees, and Mudhoney.

The cover is an illustration by comics artist Charles Burns, who was regularly used by Sub Pop for covers and posters around this period.

About ILLEGAL MOTIVES

What the heck is Illegal Motives?
Illegal Motives is a band that was being ovulated in a very city of Jogjakarta, and -for God sake-born at December 20th, 2002. It is 3 men in the end of their teen-age:

Artzex : vocal and guitar
Agib : bass and few vocal
Dimex : drum and tranquilizer

The very beginning of Illegal Motives
The year of 2003 is winning year for punk republic in Indonesia, and of course in Jogjakarta as well. That was when Artzex played in Potato Family as a vocalist and guitarist, while Agib competed in pop-punk band named Paprika as a drummer.
In the meantime, the first formation of Illegal Motives ( Dimex as a drummer; Hasta as a vocalist and guitarist; Stanley as a vocalist and bassist ) tasted the pride of becoming the opening band for Superman is Dead in Jogja Rock City concert.
Got bored with their own band, the three decided to make the new band besides of their own previous band. Then, with Dress Manasa added on guitar position, they made a band called “Making Love” that didn’t work well because...errr...maybe the name was too hot.
By the end of 2004, Illegal Motives started to ruin out with the coming of new bassist. The first formation of Illegal motives was broke out and finally just left Dimex in the band. Making Love was getting frustrated with its stagnantion. Agib and Artzex also didn’t going good with their previous band. All of that stuff then brought Artzex, Agib and Dimex to live the new Illegal Motives plus Gilang as keyboardist. Then the new Illegal Motives was born; the declaration of the bond of Melodic Punk and Grunge was signed fully with forbearing friendship. It became the act of their dreams and hopes to participate in the history of Indonesian and world music.

Track Records of Illegal Motives
In March 2005, they made their 4-track demo CD. Then in March 27th 2005, its single “Antara Kita” began to be announced in Jogja’s radios and lead the “Indie local chart” in Q-radio for 3 weeks. And the second single “Aborsi”(based on true story) was the top request in the radios in Semarang and Wonosobo. It also followed the former, was the leader in Q radio’s “Indie Local Chart”. FYI, “Antara Kita” and “Aborsi” was very popular and becoming the anthem song among the students of one popular private high school in Jogjakarta. And their 3rd single “Honesty”, frequently yelled out in Cazanova Radio, Bali –In the meantime the band was busy with their final exam-. Illegal Motives hadn’t had album yet, but their songs had been widely pirated.

Illegal Motives has an attractive performance, wild and hot but no anarchism. The band always stands maximum to bring out their skill. With live performance such that, 5 gigs minimum every month could be achieved and they got more enthusiasm from the fan.
The unique voice character of Artzex, Super power drum performance from Dimex, and beautiful way of bass string smacking from Agib built up the strong character of Illegal Motives. The Bands like Mars Volta, Marylin Manson, The Vines, Nirvana, NOFX, Slank, Oasis, The Offspring, Rancid, Ex Models, and Box Car Racer had influenced the Music of Illegal Motives a lot.

For more than one year, Artzex, Agib, Dimex and Gilang achieve success in every live performance. When Illegal Motives became the guest band for Wonosobo’s Music Festival ”Mengganyang Kebodohan” May 2006, That festival became the hottest with the most number of audiences there.
However, Gilang then walked out from the band because he was not in the mood to play music anymore.
July 2006, was the beginning of “unholy trinity” of Illegal Motives, left the strong 3 person of the band. Many said that the music of Illegal Motives was more harmonic, more energic and more solid without the keyboard.
With their high confidence and highly existence of IM every events they had, in September 2006, IM signed the contract with PT. Musikita.
The Album titled “Akhir Sebuah Kandungan”, was the biggest triumph of Illegal Motives. This album shows that the spirit of Grunge and Melodic are never being rusted.
The growths of abortion, the chaos of our nation, turn out to be the ingredients of 11 songs of Illegal Motives. Songs that end without blood.
